Music has always been a part of Scott Feltham’s life. In his youth, he studied the piano, bass, trombone, tuba and organ. At age 17, he set his sights on the double bass, continuing his studies with Patricia Brine, Max Kasper, David Currie, and Brian Robinson at McGill University. As a student, Scott Feltham recalls hearing Martha Argerich play Beethoven’s Piano Concerto no. 1 with the OSM in a program also featuring Iberia. To this day, it is his fondest musical memory! His first time hearing the OSM was in 1993 when the Orchestra performed Mahler’s Symphony no. 5 conducted by Zdeněk Mácal. Scott Feltham is grateful to Maestro Nagano for providing so many cherished moments for OSM members during his time as Music Director. This includes the OSM’s tour of the Nord-du-Québec region in 2018—a valuable exchange with several Indigenous communities—and the inaugural concert of the Maison symphonique (notably, a dress rehearsals for which he donned his kilt), as well as a Halloween concert for which the whole orchestra was costumed, its American conductor being no exception: Nagano dressed up as a martial arts master!
