OSM in the community

Through bold, progressive initiatives, the OSM collaborates with many partners from the cultural, community and educational sectors and invites Quebeckers to engage with music by offering inclusive projects that promote social integration.

La musique aux enfants

Music for children is a music education initiative devised by maestro Kent Nagano and organized by the Orchester symphonique de Montréal, in partnership with the Université de Montréal and the Pointe-de-l’Île School Board . It aims to introduce preschool children to intensive music learning in order to support them in their overall development and thus contribute to their academic success over the long term.

Since 2016, “La musique aux enfants” has been offering free music classes to all preschool students at the Saint-Rémi annex school. The music school also offers affordable classes to children in the Montreal-Nord district as part of its extracurricular program.

OSMose

This initiative aims to break down the invisible but very real barriers between the concert hall and special needs students by:

  • introducing an educational project to foster an inclusive concert experience among students
  • offering schools and families a concert in a relaxed performance setting that is suitable for special-needs children
  • providing resources to guide the concert experience and to share information about the symphony orchestra

The OSMose concert won the 2024 OPUS Award for the best concert in the “young audience” category.

Une chanson à l'école

For the forth consecutive year, the OSM is partnering with Culture pour tous in the realization of this grand project where primary school students from Quebec and Canadian Francophone communities are invited to unite their voices and kick off the Journées de la culture.
